One on One Time

Now that I am a mother of two, a whole new concept of parenting has become suddenly relevant to me and it is something I hope to near-perfect over the years: one-on-one time.  Before Jackson was even born I started to think about this concept.  I started to get a little sad for Ben and for myself for the upcoming loss of our precious alone time that we have experienced together over the last three and a half years.  I decided that I wanted to have something special planned for just the two of us to do once Jackson came along.  I searched my favorite deal websites and came across great priced Disney on Ice tickets on goldstar.com.  For Toy Story 3 no less, Ben's favorite.  Well last Friday was the big day.  My mom came and spent the night to be with Jack while we left for the show early Friday morning.  We got there early, purchased a green alien snow cone cup (at 10 in the morning!) and eagerly awaited for the show to start.  Ben was so excited when it began and the fact that Mickey and the gang made a guest appearance at the beginning of the show, and I was so excited to be experiencing this fun time with just him that I actually got teary eyed.  I had to laugh at myself and my darn hormones.  But I was truly so happy to be there with him.  It was such a cute show and Ben thoroughly enjoyed himself.  I'm going to make it a tradition to plan something, big or small, for just him and I once a month. I believe that spending individual time with your children is vitally important and hope to be good at it, no matter how many more children I might have.

That same night Ben had Kids Night Out at the rec center and James and I had a movie date planned, but Jackson had a bit of a cold so James went to a basketball game and I stayed home with Jack-- surprise one on one time with my baby now.  We spent our alone time cuddling up for a nap and enjoying a warm shower together.  He loves baths and showers and seems at such peace in them, even so much so that he often falls asleep.  So precious.  I love my children.  I love to see them together.  And I love to spend time with them alone.
